The University of Western Australia's Institute of Agriculture has released its 2025 Annual Research Report, highlighting a year of research achievements, global collaboration and industry engagement.

The report features more than 300 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters, reflecting research aimed at addressing agricultural challenges through partnerships with industry, government and regional communities.

UWA's agricultural science program retained its No. 1 ranking in Australia in 2025 and was ranked 13th globally in the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Research activity spanned greenhouse experiments at the university's Crawley campus, field trials at UWA Farm Ridgefield, publications in international scientific journals and presentations at global conferences.

During 2025, UWA secured $17.7 million in new research funding for agriculture and related fields, while maintaining a strong portfolio of externally funded projects.

Institute Director Hackett Professor Kadambot Siddique received the 2024 Crawford Medal in May 2025 and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree by Kerala Agricultural University in India during the year.

The institute also expanded its outreach through dozens of events in 2025, including its annual Industry Forum, led by Winthrop Professor Fiona Wood, which examined the future of agricultural research, development and extension in Australia.

The institute's longstanding research partnerships, which continue to support the development and delivery of agricultural research with applications in Western Australia and internationally, are highlighted in the report.

Media engagement included a nationally broadcast ABC Landline segment featuring researchers from the Best Practice Farming System Project. The program highlighted research at UWA Farm Ridgefield showing how shade and shelter systems can improve livestock welfare and productivity.
