The Illinois Legislature adjourned May 31 after approving a $55.9 billion state budget, the largest in Illinois history, along with approximately $800 million in new taxes.

Following the close of the session, the Illinois Seed Trade Association (ISTA) reported that several legislative proposals viewed as harmful to the seed industry did not advance. According to the association, the outcome reflected ongoing advocacy efforts conducted throughout the legislative process.

ISTA officials emphasized that legislative challenges facing the seed sector are expected to return in future sessions and that industry engagement remains important beyond the annual legislative calendar. The association noted that many policy issues affecting agriculture and seed businesses require year-round monitoring and communication with lawmakers.

The association also pointed to its Voluntary Legislative Contribution program as a key source of support for advocacy activities. Funds raised through the program help maintain the organization’s presence in Springfield and support efforts to address legislation before it reaches a final vote.

ISTA encouraged members to remain involved in legislative affairs and to support continued advocacy efforts as the association prepares for future policy debates in Illinois and across the Midwest.

Doug Miller, ISTA executive secretary-treasurer, thanked members who have already contributed to the program and called for continued participation as the organization works to address upcoming legislative challenges.
