The Oregon Seed Association’s Seed Labeling Database has reached widespread adoption among seed industry professionals, with use reported across all 50 states and in multiple international markets, including Canada and the European Union.
Launched in June 2025 for turf and lawn seed and expanded in December 2025 to include vegetable seed, the database was developed to centralize federal and state seed labeling requirements in a single searchable platform. It provides users access to Federal Seed Act requirements and state-specific regulations intended to guide labeling compliance.
The association said the system was designed to address challenges associated with navigating varying labeling rules across jurisdictions. By compiling regulatory information into one resource, the platform is intended to streamline access to requirements for seed companies, regulatory staff, seed analysts and labeling specialists.
According to the association, users include thousands of seed industry professionals who rely on the database to reference labeling requirements and support compliance decisions. It covers all 50 states and federal requirements under the Federal Seed Act.
Seed companies have reported that the tool has helped reduce time spent researching regulations and improved consistency in labeling review processes. Users also cited fewer delays related to shipment holds and fewer errors associated with labeling compliance.
“The industry's response has exceeded our expectations,” said Karen Withers, technical director for the Oregon Seed Association. “What began as an effort to simplify seed labeling compliance has evolved into a resource used daily by seed professionals throughout the United States and internationally.”
The Oregon Seed Association said it continues to update the database based on regulatory changes, user feedback and ongoing review of labeling requirements.
