Bion Environmental Technologies, Inc. has received its first Letters of Interest for its OMRI-listed 10-0-0 liquid nitrogen fertilizer from two organic fertilizer distributors on the West Coast.
Perfect Blend LLC, headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, has signed an LOI for 50,000 gallons. Yield RMG, based in Hollister, California, signed an LOI for 100,000 gallons. Both agreements are priced at $7.00 per pound, FOB at Bion’s first production facility, the location of which has not yet been announced.
The LOIs are nonbinding and contingent on Bion identifying and developing a facility to fulfill the volumes. At that point, formal term contracts may be executed.
The fertilizer is produced using Bion’s patented Ammonia Recovery System, which captures ammonia from livestock manure and other organic waste streams during biogas generation. The recovered nitrogen is converted into a concentrated liquid fertilizer that has been certified by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic agriculture.
The company is marketing the product for use in specialty field crops, as well as in indoor growing operations and turf applications. Bion has engaged Philo Consulting to represent its products to distributors in the organic grower market.
In a statement, Bion CEO Craig Scott said the LOIs represent a step toward commercialization. “We have successfully demonstrated our technology and its economics. Just as important, we have now shown there is demand for the fertilizer products our technology produces and at attractive pricing,” Scott said.
Bion is also evaluating retail and institutional markets for the product, including parks, golf courses, and school grounds.
