Geneseo, IL (April 30, 2025) - Douglas Kurt Cross, 71, of Geneseo, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 18, 2025, after a year-long battle with illness. Surrounded by the love of his wife, Rebecca, his final moments were filled with peace. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service celebrating Doug’s life and resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at First Methodist Church, Geneseo, with Reverend Dr. Chris Ritter officiating. A memorial visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. before the service. Memorials may be directed to the Douglas Cross Memorial Fund, which will be distributed to his favorite charities. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Born August 1, 1953, in Clarion, IA, to Marjorie Norris Cross and Lewis Harold Cross, Doug grew up on a farm, fostering a lifelong connection to the land and a deep appreciation for hard work. He attended Dows Community Schools and later graduated from the University of Iowa. His career in agriculture began at AgriPro Seeds, where he met the love of his life, Rebecca. They married on June 10, 1987, in Ames, IA, and shared 38 years of loving companionship. Following their marriage, Doug dedicated twenty-five years to working in the agricultural seed industry; working at Remington Seeds in Geneseo, IL and retiring from Central Bag Company in Leavenworth.

Doug was known for his warm and welcoming personality; he never met a stranger. His genuine kindness and engaging spirit touched the lives of everyone he encountered. Beyond his professional achievements, Doug cherished his family above all else. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca Cross of Geneseo; daughters Rachel Johnston of Gilbert, AZ, Melissa (Dean) Erickson of Boone, IA, Ashley Paulson of Ames, IA, and Marjorie (Joseph) Heene of Geneseo; son Drew (Bobbie Reeves) Cross of Bothell, WA; fourteen grandchildren; brother Mike (Evie) Cross of Hampton, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie and Lewis Harold Cross; and brothers Galyn Cross and Neil Cross.
