Event offers space for farmers to discuss federal funding freezes

La Crosse, WI (March 14, 2025) – Over 1,500 farmers, homesteaders, agriculture professionals, and researchers gathered in La Crosse, WI for the 36th Annual Marbleseed Organic Farming Conference.

The conference concluded on February 22 after three days of workshops, panels, and community-building that underscored the urgent need to support Midwest organic farmers — especially in the wake of federal funding freezes impacting agricultural programs.

The event featured more than 80 expert-led workshops, farmer-led summits, and hands-on demonstrations on topics ranging from soil health and organic grain rotation to food sovereignty and climate resilience.

Attendees also explored the two-floor trade show with over 150 exhibitors, connecting with industry leaders and discovering the latest innovations in organic farming. However, many discussions reflected growing concerns about recent federal budget freezes that threaten critical programs supporting organic transition, conservation incentives, and sustainable farming research.

Beyond educational sessions, the conference fostered meaningful networking opportunities, allowing farmers to share knowledge, problem-solve, and strengthen connections within the organic farming community.

As the Midwest’s longest-running organic farming conference, the Marbleseed Conference continues to grow, providing invaluable support to organic and transitioning farmers.
