Facility is company’s largest distribution center in North America
Merdian Design completed a build to suit project at the Corteva Agriscience production plant in Anderson, IN.
Corteva Agriscience in August opened a new regional seed distribution facility in Anderson, IN.
The company says the facility will receive and distribute primarily corn and soybean seeds from their global flagship Pioneer® seed brand – for delivery to seed agencies and, ultimately, to farmers in Indiana and Southern Ohio.
The company has committed to lease the 300,000-square-foot facility, which includes 100,000 square feet of climate-controlled space, from Scannell Properties, LLC for 10 years. Meridian Design Build completed construction on the new facility, which is built on a 30-acre site and includes refrigerated/ humidity-controlled cold storage and an adjacent dry storage area accessible via high speed rollup doors.
According to Meridian Design Build, the building features 25 loading docks, 2 drive-in doors, a storm shelter, and +/- 4,000 sq. ft. of office space. Meridian completed the project on a design/build basis with Curran Architecture providing architectural design services and American Structurepoint Inc. handling the civil engineering design.
“We’re happy to play a part in creating new economic opportunity for the Anderson community with what is now our largest seed distribution center in North America,” says Matt Kurtz, Corteva’s senior director, North America seed production & supply chain. “We value the collaboration with Scannell Properties, Southshore Companies, and the City of Anderson in helping us achieve this milestone to more efficiently serve our customers in Indiana and Southern Ohio.”
The new facility, with Southshore as its service provider, is expected to create more than 40 new jobs in the Anderson area. A video that follows the progress of the facility’s construction can be downloaded here.
