On January 9, Seed Today editor Joe Funk spoke with Dean Cavey, a partner with Verdant Partners, Champaign, IL. Mr. Cavey has 30 years experience in the worldwide seed industry, horticulture, and agribusiness.

Cavey says that agricukture in general and seed production companies in particular continue to see 2009 as a prosperous year in spite of the economic slowsown affecting much of the U.S. economy.

He cautions, however, that companies need to maintain close watch on receivables. So far, there are few reports of companies being denied needed credit. To maintain acces to lines of credit, Cavey advises companies to observe the terms of their credit agreements and make certain that none of the terms of the agreement are violated. Breaking even the smallest of terms can give a lender reason to cancel the entire agreement
