Decatur, IL (April 14) – Seed Today Publisher Deb Coontz today announced the appointment of Chris Lusvardi as Seed Today editor. He will replace Joe Funk who will semi-retire and move to the newly created role of Executive Editor. The transition will occur in May upon the completion of the second quarter issue.
Before coming to Seed Today, Lusvardi was agricultural news director and reporter for the Decatur (IL) Herald & Review. He earned a Bachelor's of Science degree from St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN, and a Master's Degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois, Springfield,
Seed Today Owner Mark Avery says he has known Lusvardi for several years and is confident he will continue to strengthen Seed Today’s position as the leading publication for seed industry news, company information, and innovative plant science developments that are shaping the future of seed technology.
“Lusvardi has experience reporting on agriculture and agribusiness throughout central Illinois,” Avery says. “He has the skills and journalistic experience that will enable him to tell the stories of the companies and people that have made the seed industry one of the most cohesive segments in all of agribusiness.”
“I worked 11 years for the Herald & Review where agribusiness and farming was part of what I covered,” Lusvardi says. “I've gained a knowledge and appreciation for agriculture while visiting with farmers and a range of companies throughout the industry. I am excited to be able to work with the seed production industry.”
Funk says, “It has been my honor to have been involved with the seed industry as Seed Today editor for the past 20 years. There is no finer, more supportive group of people anywhere than in the seed production industry.” Funk hopes to spend more time with his wife and family, in addition to doing external agricultural communication consulting, reporting, and writing.
