Iowa State University Seed Business Management Short Course To Be Held February 4-8, 2019

Ames, IA (January 23, 2019) - The Seed Technology and Business (STB) Graduate Program at Iowa State University (ISU) will host its Seed Business Management short course February 4-8, 2019. The weeklong short course takes an in-depth look at how the seed industry functions from a business perspective. As part of the event, faculty from ISU’s Ivy College of Business will lead discussions on business-to-business marketing strategies, managing supply chains, and business finance, as well as assist participants in developing their skills in the areas of leadership, teamwork and negotiation. To round out the week, experts in the industry will share their extensive career experience in research management, industry regulation, intellectual property, policy and trade.

This is the second year this short course is being offered. Those who attended the 2018 short course included industry leaders who were looking to increase their seed business knowledge.

“This is a well-designed course that gives great insight on the state of the industry and background on how our business runs,” said Collin Conner, seed production associate and 2018 short course participant.

The Seed Business Management short course will kick-off with guest speaker, Bill Niebur, President and Founder of Niebur Advisors, LLC, and former DuPont VP Corporate Officer. Niebur has extensive global experience in seed business leadership, plant genetics and biotechnology. He played an important role in developing long-term business and collaboration strategies for DuPont Pioneer in China and is credited with establishing Pioneer as a respected agribusiness leader over the past decade. Mr. Niebur will present on success factors for international seed industry leaders, developing winning strategies, and building top teams.

Guest presenters for this February’s course will also feature Jim Schweigert, President of Gro Alliance, LLC. Keri Carstens, the Global Regulatory Leader with Seed Applied Technologies and Biologicals Portfolios at DuPont Pioneer, and Jim Scharingson, Executive Director of Sales and Marketing at Renewable Energy Group.

The Seed Business Management short course is a companion course to the Seed Science and Technology short course offered again November 4-8, 2019. Attendees receive a significant discount if they attend both short courses.
